LIRA —Lira University will hold its first graduation ceremony on Friday, November 1, Academic Registrar, Dr. Evelyn Karindiriza has confirmed.
A letter dated October 18, Dr. Karindiriza informed all students of the then Gulu University constituent college-Lira and of Lira University who have completed their studies in the Academic Year 2018/ 2019 from Lira University; that the confirmed date for the first graduation ceremony of Lira University is Friday 1st November 2019.
“It will be a historic event for us as we will be releasing our first graduates to the job market with high-level training and skills for the first time,” said said the Academic Registrar.
Dr. Karindirizi expressed optimism about the university’s progress saying they in partnership with African Development Bank had embarked on massive expansion of the institution’s infrastructure to accommodate more students and enhance learning.
She said the university would continue to offer relevant and quality market-driven academic programmes for steering socio-economic development.
Meanwhile, the Academic Registrar urged graduands to ensure that they have fully cleared all graduation and other related fees before October October 25.
Graduation gowns and invitation cards she said will be picked from the Office of the Academic
Registrar from Thursday 24 to Wednesday October 30 upon presentation of the payment receipt.
“Students of the then Gulu University Constituent College-Lira will pay their Graduation fees to Gulu University and get their Graduation Gowns from Gulu University but must be cleared by the relevant offices in Lira University,” she added.
The university first opened in August 2012 with 100 students.
At that time, the institution was a constituent college of Gulu University and was known as Gulu University Constituent College Lira.
It was also referred to as Lira University College.
In June 2015, Ministry of Education elevated the college to university status, effective with the 2016-17 academic year that began in August 2016, making it one of the eleven public universities and degree-awarding institutions in the country.
As of January 2016, Lira University maintained the following academic units:

Faculty of Health Sciences
Institute of Management Science
Institute of Medicinal Plants and Biodiversity
