KIU medical student bags TAMSA award

DAR ES SALAAM – A fourth-year medical at Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT), Carolyne Kerubo Omboto has emerged a winner of the 13th edition of Win and Learn University Academic Event.

The awards were organized by the Tanzania Medical Students Association (TAMSA) at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) on the theme “Tanzania of Industry and Health (Society integration, Research, Technology and Innovation).”

TAMSA is the parent association for all medical universities chapters in Tanzania.

The annual event which brings together undergraduate and postgraduate medical students from all Tanzanian universities attracted a total of 27 participants in 4 categories including Research, School recognition, poster, and case presentation among others.

Ms. Omboto, who participated in the case presentation category emerged the third best competitor presented on “prostate cancer: a silent killer” and walked away with a certificate and cash prize.

The other winners were Heaven Chitemo, a fifth year MBChB student and fourth-year dentist student from Muhimbili University of Health Allied Sciences who were first and second respectively.

Each participant was allocated a total of 7 minutes to present their cases to a team of qualified judges including the MUHAS DVC – Academics, Research and Consultancy Prof. Apollinary Kamuhabwa who doubled as the chief judge as well as Guest of Honour.
