ARUA – Police in Arua District have recovered an SMG rifle number UG POL 48002035 with 9 rounds of ammunition.

According to West Nile regional police spokesperson Josephine Angucia, the weapon was found along Arua Vurra custom road, near the Customs with DR Congo, Vurra Sub County, at around 10pm on Monday.

She said inquiries indicate that the gun in question was one of the 3 guns stolen from Lobule Prison in Koboko district about a month ago.

“The two people carrying the gun were moving on a motorcycle towards Vurra Custom side during curfew time. Upon meeting the officers from Police and UPDF on joint night patrols, they abandoned the black bag with the gun on the road and took off in disarray. After chasing them all in vain, the officers came back to check inside the bag only to find the gun with 9rounds of ammunitions. No arrest made yet. The gun is exhibited as inquiries continue under Vurra SD Ref 02/08/09/2020,” Ms Angucia said.
