FORT PORTAL – Police in Fort Portal Municipality, Kabarole District are holding a man for allegedly killing his colleague over Shs2000.

Ronald Arinaitwe, 40, is alleged to have stabbed Richard Bitalimara,36, to death for failing to pay the money he had advanced to him.

The incident happened in Kyamakomera LCI Kiguma parish Bukuku subcounty.

Mr Vicent Twesigye, the West Nile police spokesman, said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased owed the suspect Shs2000 (two thousand shillings only) and when he failed to pay, a scuffle ensued during which the suspect grabbed a knife and stabbed Bitalimara in the left lower part of the neck killing him instantly.

The body has been taken to fort Portal referral regional hospital for postmortem pending further investigations.

Reports of domestic violence have surged globally in the wake of massive lockdowns imposed to contain the spread of the disease.

Michael Opio, a resident of Ararak B cell, Kaberamaido town council in Kaberamaido district, was on March 31 arrested for allegedly biting off his wife’s lip over sh200.

The officer in charge of the district Family and Child Protection Unit of Kaberamaido, Janet Amuge Etoru, said Opio will be charged with assault.

Amuge said Anna Grace Ajuno appeared in their office and said her husband, Opio, fought her and in the process bit her lip.
