Mob kills 50-year-old on suspicion of witchcraft

RUBANDA – Kigezi Region Police have mounted a hunt for the yet to be identified residents who ganged up and lynched a resident accusing her of witchcraft.

The Kigezi Region Police spokesman Elly Maate identified the deceased as Sarafina Kyomukama 52 a resident of Kiyebe cell Kiyebe Parish Ruhija Sub County in Rukiga District.

The mob is said to have lynched Kyomukama on Thursday 31, October 2019 at around 8:00 am at Kiyebe Trading Centre.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was suspected to have bewitched her brother John Kamuhanda who recently died mysteriously.

Mr. David Turyasingura the LC II Chairperson Kiyebe Parish alleges that the locals had a planning meeting on the evening of Wednesday, October 29, and accomplished their mission on Thursday morning.

Mr. Maate called upon the residents to always desist from mob actions instead use relevant offices to sort out their grievances.

The case has been registered at Rubanda Police Station ref SD 12/31/10/2019.
