RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri are holding two people suspected of killing a man over love affairs.

The arrested have been identified as William Owakubariho, 40, and Consolata Owomugisha, 38, all residents of Kikunyu cell, Nyakitabire parish, Ruhinda Sub County in Rukungiri District.

According to the Rukungiri District Police Commander, ASP Moses Nanoka, preliminary investigations show that Owomugisha whose husband died last year, had two lovers who collided in her house and started fighting on Sunday October 26 night.

ASP Nanoka said one of Owomugisha’s men James Rweitemenzi 38, was sleeping in her house then the second William Owakubariho came in and a quarrel started culminating into a fight, in which Rweitemenzi was beaten and burnt to death,” Nanoka said.

John Twinoburyo one of the area residents told our reporter that since Owomugisha’s husband died she has been dating many men and they were not surprised to witness this bad act, noting that they have on several occasions seen men come in and out of her house.

The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate confirmed the arrests and said that investigations are ongoing at Rukungiri Police Station vide CRB1472.

Maate said it is suspected that Owomugisha, Owakubariho together with another still at large, clobbered Rweitemenzi and later burnt him with a mosquito net,

Rweitemenzi remained unconscious until Sunday morning when he was taken to Rwengiri Health Centre III where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“We already have detained two people in relation to this murder so that they can help us with investigations. We are still hunting for the other one and once we are done with investigations, the law will take its course,” said Mr. Maate.
