KAMPALA – Police in Najjera has on September 18 rescued a six-year-old boy identified as Peter Namanya that was being tortured by one of his relatives after a tip-off by the residents.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango, police got information at around 9 pm on Wednesday night that a one Kukunda Penina 29, a resident of Buwate was torturing a young boy of 6 years.

“The neighbours got concerned and tried to approach her but she locked herself in her room. When Police reached the scene the neighbours had become violent, Police Officers had to carry out community policing to cool down the tempers of the residents,” said Mr Onyango.

He added that the suspect was counselled and she willingly accepted to open the door and she was arrested.

“We have preferred charges of Torture pending advice from the Resident State Attorney,” he said.

According to Namanya, Ms Kukunda beat him because he got outside the house which she had prohibited him from doing.

He said he ran away seeking refuge and that is when he found a bodaboda rider who drove him to Buwate Police Station.

“I ran and asked someone to take me to police,” Namanya said.

Namanya added that Ms Kukunda has always beaten him using a phone charger.

Ms Kukunda is currently being detained at Najjera Police Station.
