Police launches operation to curb crime in Kampala, arrests over 40

KAMPALA- Kampala Metropolitan Police have on Wednesday, July 24 launched an operation to get rid of suspected criminals in the city.

The operation is targeting thugs who pickpocket, snatch mobile phones, necklaces, watches and others who engage in illegal activities.

According to the police, over 40 suspects have been arrested in the ongoing operation around Kampala and neighbouring areas.

The suspects were arrested in the areas of Mutungo, Kitintale, Mbuya, Goodshade, Clock Tower, Cooper Complex among others.

Police added that these will appear in court before the end of this week.

Upon their arrest, Police found them with cigarettes, marijuana and match boxes that they use to smoke it.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, July 23, at around 2:30 pm , over 58 motor cycle number plates were recovered abandoned alongside the road at Kiryowa cell Kiryamuli ward Gombe Division in Wakiso district.

The operation was done by the local leaders of the area and Matugga police.

“We would want to thank the public for being vigilant when they noticed these number plates and took it upon themselves to inform the police which responded in time,” says police.

Police added that inquiries are ongoing to establish the rightful owners of these number plates, and who could have dropped them off.
