Two nabbed as Police mounts operation on motorcycle theft, recovering six

KAMPALA – Police in Najjera, Kampala has Wednesday, June 19 arrested two suspected motorcycles thieves who according to police admitted to having stolen over 40 of them.

Police say on June 17 was tipped of one Bogere Kenneth, who was riding a suspected stolen motorcycle UEL 075Z from Ibanda District.

“He was immediately arrested and the motorcycle impounded,” revealed police adding that “He was later tasked to lead us to his boss.”

Upon taking them, police also arrested his boss, Matovu Gideon and his motorcycle UET 967Z also impounded.

Police add that “On 18/06/2019 the owner of the stolen motorcycle UEL 075Z came with his logbook and a national ID, and he found out that the impounded motorcycle was his.”

However, Matovu Gideon also had a forged logbook of the same motorcycle.

Later, police carried out a search at the home of the two suspects finding suspected forged 75 Receipt, 64 logbooks, 182 agreements, 12 photocopies national ID, and 15 receipt books at Mr. Matovu’s home.

However, Mr. Matovu defended the documents saying that he owns over 40 motorcycles and the documents recovered were proof they were his and he hired them out.

Police revealed that when the riders of the alleged hired motorcycles got to know of the development they decided to hand them over to Najjera Police Station through their boda-boda chairman.

The recovered motorcycles are registered as UEQ 400K, UEK 475M, UEL 472J, UEP 050N, UEK 878A, UEN 268W.

The suspects have been taken to Igorora police station, Ibanda district.
