KAGADI – Police in Kagadi district are hunting for thugs who on Monday morning attacked a supermarket and killed a security guard before fleeing with unspecified sums of money.

The Kagadi district police commander, Mr. Romeo Ojara Oneck, said Mr. Luke Duramani, a resident of Hoima Town who was guarding a supermarket in Nankulabye cell, Kagadi Town council in Kagadi district, died of gunshot wounds on Monday morning.

Mr. Ojara said that the deceased was allegedly attacked by thugs who stabbed him to death at around 2 am in wee hours of Monday.

‘‘This morning unknown people attacked the supermarket at around 2 am. The thugs pretended to be buying fuel and when the security guard approached them, they attacked him, beat him up and he ended up dying. Another security guard from nearby came and tried to help and he was also beaten badly.

They are suspected to be six in number. Police have recovered an identity card of the suspects with some items which they purportedly used in robbing the supermarket Ojara said.

The fuel station attendant, Mr. Nicholas Amanyire, said two people who came to help the security guard were also beaten up and tied before they threw them in a service bay pit.

The injured are currently admitted at St. Ambrose charity health centre in Kagadi town.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Kagadi Hospital mortuary.

The incident comes a day after six armed thugs robbed a supermarket and killed a guard in Kampala on Saturday.

The armed thugs, using motorcycles without number plates, were armed with Sub-machine gun and a pistol. They robbed the supermarket of an unspecified amount of money and a Mobile Money shop of Shs4.5m in Mpererwe on Gayaza Road.

The deceased Tight Security guard Pilson Okot died of bullet wounds at Mulago Hospital.

The thugs also shot and injured a motorist, who attempted to block them as they fled the scene
