WAKISO – Police in Matugga on Sunday thwarted a robbery attempt at Kiwa Hardware Shop located along Semuto-Matugga Road.

The foiled break-in was a response to gunshots fired by a PSG security guard. Matugga Police team responded to the call and indeed found a robbery in progress, the hardware had been broken into and valuables were being loaded into a vehicle.

On realizing police presence, the robbers attempted to exchange fire in retaliating and in due course, two suspects were put out of action while one unidentified suspect who succumbed to fatal injuries fled the scene.

Police was able to recover 20 bags of cement, 32 iron sheets and a search for the armed suspect who fled is still underway.

So far, preliminary investigations have established the suspects used an opportunity of the loading vehicles parked at the hardware entrance to stealthily cut the padlock and access the stores. The suspects used an iron bar to break the padlock and gained access to the shop.

The police thanked the PSG security guard that alerted them for intervention and urged the public to always call the police whenever they witness anything suspicious to facilitate quick intervention.

Meanwhile, the vehicle registration number UAM 668Q (Canter) that was being used in the robbery is currently impounded at Mattuga Police Station as investigations continue.
