KAMPALA – Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has urged the youth to form and register credible groups if they are to benefit from government’s youth livelihood programmes.

According to Ms Among, government has set aside a lot of money under various programmes aimed at uplifting the livelihoods of youth and other vulnerable groups such as women but the funds remain under-utilised because the intended beneficiaries are not organised.

“I implore you all to put politics aside and form developmental groups and Saccos if you are to fully benefit from the different development government programmes,” she said.

The Speaker of Parliament made the remarks while meeting different savings and youth groups from Kamuli, Budiope and Buyende districts on Sunday, 10th September.

On Thursday, September 7, 2023, Ms Among sent the House on recess, urging all legislators to utilise the 20-day period to monitor the implementation of government programmes.

At the Sunday function, which took place in Budiope East Constituency at the invitation of area MP Moses Magogo, Ms Among donated Shs70m to different youth groups and Saccos.

“I urge you all groups leaders to use this money for the intended purpose, and call upon you all to report all those who misuse and swindle these funds for individual benefit, to the authorities,” she said.

Ms Among is re-echoing President Museveni’s wealth creation message where he has been urging the youth and other Ugandans to get organised and benefit from government livelihood programmes such as Youth Livelihood Fund (YLF), NAADS, Microfinance Fund, Emyooga and Parish Development Model (PDM).

Under PDM, which is the latest programme, government is giving out at least Shs100m to each of the 10,694 parishes every financial year as revolving fund, aimed at supporting nearly 39 percent of households from subsistence economy to commercial production.
