KAMPALA – Police in Kampala are hunting for a man who is accusing to killing the sister of a senior police officer after attempting to rape her.
The suspect, Brian Tuhamire, is wanted for allegedly suffocating to death Mercy Aturinda, 37, the sister of Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Kasigire, after failing to rape her.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that Tuhamire was an employee of Aturinda at her garage in Manyagwa, Gayaza. And on the fateful day in the wee hours of Thursday morning at around 1am, Aturinda called her sister, Jackline Arinaitwe, showing that she was in danger.
At the time, the deceased’s sister, Arinaitwe, said she heard Aturinda over the phone struggling with another person. “I could hear my sister struggling with another person over the person,” Arinaitwe told mourners on Thursday evening.
The phone later went off and when the family rushed to the home in Manyangwa on Thursday morning, they found Aturinda’s body on the bed with a pillow over her face.
Tuhamire, the suspect, is said to have been in the house and had made sexual advances to Aturinda who turned them down.
Kasigire, during vigil held at his home in Kiira Municipality on Thursday evening, urged all those with information about the suspect to report to police. There was a requiem service at St Luke Ntinda on Friday morning and the body is set to be transported to the ancestral home in Kashara, Mbarara, for burial.
