HOIMA – Five teachers of Yanah Primary School in Hoima East Division – Hoima City have been arrested for conducting lessons.

The teachers are Ronald Naizito, Leonard Kyaligonza, Juliet Ndibalekesa, Cissy Nankabirwa, Akio Ntibankane and Fred Mukasa.

Last week, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced fresh restrictions as part of measures to control the Covid-19 transmissions in the country in face of the second wave of the pandemic.

Among the fresh restrictions, the president directed was the closure of all educational institutions across the country for 42 days.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson said that the eleven pupils who were being taught by the arrested teachers were also arrested and they are currently being detained at Hoima CPS.

Hakiza confirmed that police had summoned parents of the arrested pupils to explain why they released their pupils to the teachers despite the presidential directive. Hakiza asked parents to adopt the homeschooling programme.

The development comes after Kampala RCC – Hood Hussein warned such schools to desist from undertaking private lessons or risked losing their licences on top of arrests.
