NAIROBI – Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to arrive in Nairobi on Tuesday for a two-day State visit, Kenya’s presidency announced on Monday.

Suluhu made her first trip as President to Uganda on April 11, to sign major oil deals with President Yoweri Museveni and oil Giant-Total. Authorities in Kenya believe that the Kampala-Dar es Salaam Oil deal bypassed them, owing to the high cost of implementing the project.

While in Nairobi, Suluhu will address a joint session of Kenya’s parliament, according to sources.

Samia will address combined houses of Kenyan Parliament during her visit, Tanzanian government spokesperson Gerson Msigwa, confirmed on Monday.

Kenya’s State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said that other details of Samia’s visit will be shared in due course.

Her visit comes almost five years after her predecessor, the late John Pombe Magufuli, made a similar trip.

The tour of Nairobi is in response to an invitation from President Uhuru Kenyatta. On April 10 Presient Uhuru sent Sports CS Amina Mohamed to Tanzania to formally deliver his invite to President Suluhu.

Relations between the two East African neighbours have been affected by protracted disputes over trade in the recent past. President Uhuru invited Suluhu to Nairobi amid efforts to amend frosty relations between the two countries, which escalated under the reign of late President John Magufuli.

Past rows include a ban by Kenya on liquefied petroleum gas – LPG from Tanzania, which saw Dar es Salam retaliated by blocking milk and its products, as well as cigarettes from the Nairobi government.
