BUDUDA – Police have urged local council leaders and authorities to help in fighting and preventing domestic violence related cases.

The call was made by the head of Community Policing department, ACP Anatoli Muleterwa.

Muleterwa was accompanied by SP Okino Cyprian in Elgon Region where he met all local council leaders from the districts of Manafwa and Bududa.

“We would like to call upon local leaders to assist us in preventing domestic violence. It is a vice that has cost physical, emotional and psychological well being of the victims. Work with the police to ensure it’s fought and bring to book all those culprits,” he said.

He also reminded the leaders of their cardinal roles and responsibilities in the fight against crime. Here, he urged them to set up local council courts and bylaws so as to sort minor issues that normally come to police yet they can be handled at local council level.

Muleterwa urged the police officers to work hand in hand with the community, which he said will ease policing.
