KAMPALA —Stars of all stripes are set to participate in the fast-approaching inauguration of President-elect Yoweri Museveni.
Wednesday’s star-spangled events will see a variety of celebrities — including actors, actresses and musicians — sprinkled throughout a long day of virtual programming.
According to the office of Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, the Senegalese-American RnB singer Akon will perform at President swearing in slated for Wednesday 12.
Akon last month announced a new futuristic and sustainable city project in Uganda.
The Ugandan government, through its Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Isaac Musumba promised to make a 260-hectare site available for the construction of this futuristic city.
As in Senegal, the economy of this future smart city will be based on Akoin.
This is a cryptocurrency based on the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP) and the Akoin Utility token, which uses Atomic Swap technology to facilitate exchanges with other major crypto-currencies, its partners’ alternative currencies and fiat currencies (such as the Ugandan shilling, the CFA franc, the dollar or the euro, editor’s note).
Ugandan president explained in a tweet that the music icon and his wife were seeking business opportunities in Uganda.
“Mr. Aliaune Thiam (@Akon ) and his wife, come to Uganda in search of business opportunities in a number of sectors like energy, tourism, and infrastructure development. I am happy to engage in such a discussion that will uplift our people and Africa at large,” the president said.
Akon who will be received by Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Ambassador Hajj Abbey Walusimbi and the team will be escorted by his wife Rozina Negusei, a Record Lebel owner and entrepreneur.
