ENTEBBE – A 21-year-old housemaid is facing charges of murder and violent robbery.
Kamiati Namaganda and others still at large, reportedly murdered and robbing her employer, Phionah Tumusiime’s property worth Ugx12.6 million
According to particular of the case before Justice Wilson Kwesiga, Namaganda is said to have robbed Tumusiime of two smartphones; three suitcases containing clothes; hair weaves; perfumes; a laptop bag; and Ugx35,800 in cash – which items are value at a total of Ugx 12,640,800.
The prosecution led by Miriam Njuki avers that; “immediately before or immediately after the time of the said robbery, Namaganda was in possession of a deadly weapon – a knife.” And as such, she is accused of aggravated robbery for contravening sections 285 of the Penal Code Act. She is also charged with the murder of Tumusiime when she appeared before Justice Wilson Kwesiga on Friday at the Entebbe Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Kwesiga is presiding over the ongoing High Court criminal session in Entebbe.
Namaganda admitted before court that she actually stolen the said items but denied charges of murdering her boss – Tumusiime.
The offences allegedly took place at Tumusiime’s home in Jomayi Estate, Bwerenga village – Katabi town council in Wakiso district.
The state asserts that Namaganda and others at large attacked and unlawfully caused Tumusiime’s death. They are said to have attacked her at her home on May 22, 2020; robbed her of the said items and fled.
Justice Kwesiga adjourned the case to May 6, for prosecution to present its case against Namaganda, who is being represented by Peter Wanda.
