Former Ntungamo CAO, two others charged with embezzlement of salaries

NTUNGAMO – The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) conducted arrests of the the former Ntungamo District Chief Administrative Officer, now the Buliisa CAO Joanita Nakityo, Byaruhanga Andrew, the district Chief Finance Officer and it’s information technology officer Ashaba Julius on
February 18, 2021.

The three Government Officials were arrested for embezzlement of more than Shillings 93.1 million shillings meant to pay salaries and wages for the district staff between June and December 2019.

Following the arrest, the three were arraigned at the anti-corruption court
on Friday before Grade One Magistrate His Worship, Moses Nabende.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

Nakityo who was charged for embezzling shs 62m out of the shs 93m was granted cash bail of shs 7m, Byaruhanga who was charged for embezzling shs 16m was granted cash bail of shs 4.5m and Ashaba who was charged for embezzling shs 14m was also granted cash bail of Ushs 4.5m.

Prosecution led by IGG’s Thomas Okoth informed court that the investigations had been completed.

Hearing of the case will commence on March 30, 2021.
