KAMPALA – As Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and wife Barbie Itungo remain detained incommunicado at their home, Justices Esther Nambayo and Musa Ssekaana have denied to hear an application filed before them seeking their freedom.

Having received the case file from the candidate’s lawyers, the two judges claimed they are already handling cases involving the party National Unity Platform (NUP), arguing that in order to avoid conflict of interest they will not handle more related cases.

One of the lawyers Anthony Wameli has revealed that their case has now been allocated to Justice Michael Elubu who has set Thursday, January 21, 2021 as date for hearing.

On Tuesday, January 19 Bobi Wine’s lawyers led by Wameli and Geoffrey Turyamusiima filed for a habeas corpus before the High Court in Kampala for their clients.

The lawyers argue that the continued illegal detention of Kyagulanyi and his wife is an infringement on their rights to personal liberty.

Bobi Wine who came second in the just concluded presidential election with 34%, has not left his home which is surrounded by police and army since he went out to vote on Thursday, last week.

He has since rejected the results and seeks to challenge it in courts of law.

He is not allowed to see his friends, lawyers, friends, family and doctors.
