Former NITA-U Executive Director James Saka has died (PHOTO/File)

KAMPALA — The former executive director of the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U), James Saka has died on Wednesday, December 9 in Kampala.

His death has been confirmed by NITA-U in a statement on Twitter.

“It is with profound shock and sadness that we announce that James Saaka, our former ED, has passed away.
We extend our most heartfelt condolences and sympathy to James’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this most difficult time.
Rest In Power James”, the announcement reads.

Initial reports indicate that Mr. Saka, the pioneer Chief Executive of NITA-U suffered from the Covid-19 infection but had been cured of the virus by the time he died.

He died in a Kampala hospital.
“It’s painful and sad for James. I am sad! My sincere condolences to his family, friends in the ICT sector and NITA Uganda,” said Mr. Frank Tumwebaze, the Gender, Labour, and Social Development minister on Wednesday.

Mr. Saka retired from NITA-U in Augusta this year after setting it up and running it for 10 years.

Mr. Tumwebaze was ICT Minister when Mr. Saka run NITA-U.
