IBANDA — Presidential candidate Norbert Mao has said that Democratic Party (DP) is the only clean party that should take over power in Uganda.
Campaigning in Ibanda District over the weekend, Mao said due to the current political turmoil in the country, Ugandans need a political party with clean hands to move the country forward and leaders that send messages of hope rather than fear. ‘’You need a leader who sees far, you need a leader that comes from a party that has no blood on its hands. DP is a party which has no blood on its hands, I have no blood in my hands so am here to promise clean leadership,’’ Mr Mao said.
‘’ There are those who are sending messages of fear that Uganda is going to blow up. Whether Uganda is going to blew up or not is in your hands the voters.’’ He added
Mr Mao described Mr Museveni as a dangerous person to the nation because of sticking to power instead of handing over peacefully. ‘’ We need a leader who is not greedy for power. A leader who is greedy for power like Museveni who wants to rule until he dies is a danger to the future. He cannot secure it.’’
Mr Mao said if Mr Museveni does not peacefully relinquish power by himself, there will be blood shade
‘’ I am glad you people here look after cattle. Do you know what happens when you want to remove a tick that is insisting on staying on the body of a cow? Museveni is now like a tick on the body of Uganda and when he forces Ugandans to remove him by force, there will be blood. It is only DP that can actually guarantee peace and peacefulchange in Uganda.’’Mr Mao said
Mr Mao said he is not focusing on taking power like most of the candidates but rather national building since all the structures of the government have been broken down by the NRM government.
‘’My campaign is not about power; it is about nation building. As far as I am concerned there is no country called Uganda. Everybody is clamoring for power but first we must build Uganda. How do we build Uganda, no group or even tribe filled an application form begging to belong to Uganda’’ Mr Mao said
He added ‘’ We must therefore find a formula which will enable us to live together as brothers and sisters in this country we call Uganda. That formula can only come from a durable constitution. The constitution we have now is full of holes and yet the politicians are keeping the people poor while pretending that they are fighting for the people’’
Before addressing the voters at Igorora town council, Rwenkoba, Kihani, Ishongorero, Kagongo and Ibanda Municipality in Ibanda district , Mr Mao asked supporters to respect the standard operating procedures issued by the ministry of health in prevention against covid-19 and that henever wanted to be held responsible for spreading Corona Virus.
‘’I want to start by advising on this new disease called Covid-1. It is not a disease that spares anybody whether you are rich. This morning we lost a member of parliament of Kamuli municipality, you remember we lost the deputy director of the media center and a whole colonel in UPDF. In Ghana former president John Rawlings also died of Covid-19, so I want to start my message by asking you to take care. I do not want to be responsible for spreading covid-19.’’ Mr Mao warned.
