KAMPALA — Journalist Adam Al-mahadi Kungu has quit Top Media Group, the umbrella company of Top Radio, Top Television and Kampala FM.
The group’s leading talkshow host announced Friday, October 16 that he has left after 1 and half years.
Mr. Kungu, a multimedia journalist who also writes for SoftPower News, a local online publication said he has left the country’s first Christian station with immediate effect but thanked management and said he will forever be grateful for the opportunity to serve.
“I have today officially left Top TV and Radio. It has been a pleasure working with Uganda’s first Christian Station,” he wrote to his followers.
He added: “My great appreciation to Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga and Mama Eve Ssenyonga for the opportunity, I will always be grateful”.
Kungu said had quit all his shows including Okwatibwako and Negwozadde political programs, at both Radio and Television but he would continue to write for SoftPower News.
One of his supporters and followers, Dr. Joseph Sserwadda said: “I am lost for words.”
It is thought that Kungu had become frustrated by the lack of progress at Top TV and Radio, and exasperated by massive exodus of experienced staff, according to industry sources.
Although, his immediate resignation has taken many by surprise, sources close to him said the talkshow host had already had offers from a number of media houses.
He declined to disclose his next destination but it is immediately clear that the doors aren’t closed for him.
The former Sunrise and Sun FM news reporter has been at the heart of the Top TV and Radio political coverage and determining topical issues of national importance for discussion.
Mr. Steven Dunstan Busuulwa who served as Station Manager and political talk show host for over 15 years also quit Top Media Group in July this year.
At the same time, Tamale Mirundi also suspended his progrommes at Pr. Jackson Senyonga’s Media— claiming the station had been influenced by mafias.
