MUKONO – Members of the Mukono National Resistance Movement (NRM) have come to blows during a reconciliation meeting between party members and the NRM primaries losers.

The meeting that was held at Grand Prolos Hotel in Nasuuti, Mukono Municipality to reconcile party members was headed by a representative from Central Executive Committee- CEC Gabriel Kato.

During the meeting, Kato noted that the party had developed misunderstandings during the party’s primary elections.

“Currently there are disputes within the party. Therefore, the NRM reconciliation is a move by the party meant to unite and convince the primaries losers to stand down.” He said

“I hope to meet with the different party contestants in a separate meeting to to resolve some of these issues.” He added

However, the meeting escalated into a fight when Margret Nakavubu the NRM woman Member of Parliament (MP)
flag bearer accused the incumbent MP Mukono North Ronald Kibuule of being hypocrites and supporting opposition candidates.

She said: ”Some of the biggest party members like Kibuule are supporting opposition candidates which is affecting the party’s image at the grassroots.”

“Such behaviors are the leading causes of divisions and misunderstandings among party members.” She added

A scuffle broke out between her supporters and Kibuule’s
supporters who fought each other. Our Reportor noticed members throwing patches at each other while others, where being cried out of the meeting room and taken outside on grounds that they cannot look on when their candidate is being insulted.

Some of the party members condemned Nakavubu for speaking ill of Kibuule.

Moses Male the Chairperson NRM Mukono Central Division said that Nakabuvu should not have accused Kibuule of supporting opposition candidates but rather spoken about the good he has done for the last 5 years.

He alleged: “Nakavubu can not accuse Kibuule of supporting opposition candidates yet she did. Nakavubu openly vowed to support the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Abudallah Kiwanuka Mulimamayuni.”

Police who were missing in the meeting arrived on the scene when party members had stopped fighting.

However, on contacting the the Mukono Resident District Commissioner (RDC) noted that he had no idea about the meeting.

Bamwine said: “Security is always availed for people organizing party meetings.”

Background

In the 2015 campaigns, Kibuule endorsed the incumbent Mukono Woman Mp Peace Kusasira during the party primaries where Nakavubu lost, and stood as an independent candidate which she still lost.

The long term misunderstandings blow up in August 2020 during the party’s primaries where Kibuule campaigned for her opponent Margret Nalugo and called her names like Kibe which means fox.

Nalugo lost the flag however, she is running as an independent candidate for the position.
