KAMPALA – Former FDC Party President Dr. Kizza Besigye has launched a book titled SHADOW TALES, a collection of poems authored by Makerere University student Obed Obedgui Jalmeo.
According to his personal aide Ronald Muhinda, Besigye flanked by Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, Kampala MP Aspirants Harold Kaija and Stella Nyanzi and FDC Treasurer General Geoffrey Ekanya, also launched a Students Foundation started by Obedgui purposed to fundraise and support needy students at Makerere University.
Obedgui says the foundation was a third step to compliment other plans like protests and dialogue with stakeholders to help needy and disadvantaged students with their tuition.
A disadvantaged student himself, Obedgui says he needs to step in and help colleagues who need a strong voice of support.
On his part, Besigye said there must be a deliberate plan to support acquisition of knowledge saying Uganda faces an existential threat as a result of mismanagement of education system.
He said that Uganda lags behind in research, technology, medicine etc, stressing that there is need to address the problem of knowledge deficit by enabling all children of Uganda access free education to the highest level.
Besigye also asked Makerere University students to organise themselves and force “unresponsive” regime from power saying the NRM regime is so weak.
