KAMPALA – Police in Kampala have arrested seven suspects for gathering in an apartment and drinking alcohol, contrary to the ministry of health guidelines to combat Covid-19 in the country.

This was during a joint operation on Sunday at around 9 PM.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson said this was after receiving a complaint from one of the news dailies alleging that a lot of people would gather in a certain apartment located in Balintuma village near Firidina Road drinking with loud music disrupting the peace of “wanaichi” and also defying the Presidential directives.

“There was fear that their inconsiderate behaviour could spread Covid-19 within their village,” he said.

Owoyesigyire said that the arrested suspects are all detained at Kira Road Police on allegations of disobedience lawful orders and also doing a negligent act likely to spread and infection of disease.
