BUSHENYI – Justice Anna Bitature Mugyenyi of the Commercial Court Division this week opened a High Court criminal session in Bushenyi.
The Judge was welcomed by a guard of honour mounted by Uganda police, which was followed by a pre-session meeting where she addressed stakeholders.
During the meeting, the Judge said she would handle 40 files in 40 days. The cases to be tried include 26 murder cases, nine aggravated defilement and aggravated robbery cases.
Justice Bitature said due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, members of the public will be restricted from accessing court for the duration of the session. “Only witnesses, assessors and attorneys will be allowed in the court hall,” she said.
After the pre-session meeting, the Judge proceeded to Bushenyi Government Prison where she conducted plea taking and fixing of hearing dates.
