KAMPALA – Five more journalists in Uganda have tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number to seven.

On Monday, NTV Uganda and Vision Group announced that each one of their staff had tested positive for the virus.

And now it has emerged that five employee at Radio Pacis in Arua District tested positive for COVID-19 at the weekend.

The news was broken by the radio director, Fr Charles Idraku.

“On August 14, we invited the Ministry fo Health to test our staff at Arua Diocese Media Centre. We now have the results and five of our staff members have tested positive for the disease,” said Fr Idraku.

There is growing concern over rising COVID-19 infections in the country.

The Ministry of Works and Transport on Monday warned it would shut down public transport again because of non-compliance with Covid-19 guidelines.

Works and Transport minister, Gen Katumba Wamala, said this is an alert to the industry .

“The transport industry falls under me, and so if I see threats against the industry, it is my responsibility to alert them, for us to stay in line. I wouldn’t want to see my industry closed…it is an alert…, I have done my duty, I have alerted you , it’s not me to order the lockdown, me I have alerted my industry to be aware,” Gen Wamala said yesterday during a telephone interview.
