KAMPALA – A 76-year-old woman on Thursday, June 18, 2020 collapsed and died in a building that houses the offices of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Directorate of Veterans on the 7th Floor.
The UPDF in a statement said Annet Masumba, the mother of the late Lt Andrew Muduli, collapsed and died instantly in a lift at Postel building in Kampala.
The resident of Mbale district, Mbale Municipality, Wanale sub county, Busamaga parish, Butandiga Cell, was in company of his son one Wagidoso Wasolo, and a Ministry of Defence staff, Mr Apollo Welishe.
“Together, the two were climbing the steps to access 7th floor but later decided to use the lift where Annet collapsed. The UPDF medical team from the UPDF Senior Officers Diogonostic Centre Mbuya led by Dr. Brenda Aboke was immediately called in. Dr. Aboke later pronounced Annet Masumba dead,” the army said in a statement.
The body was taken to Bombo General Military Hospital for Postmortem.
By the time of her death, Masumba Annette was the one responsible for the estates of her late son, a UPDF soldier who passed on in 1999.
Annet had received Gratuity money and by the time of her death she was receiving monthly pension payments.
It is believed that she wanted to access the offices of the Directorate of Veteran Affairs to follow up on the same matter.
It has also been established from her son that, the mother has been battling with Arthritis and High Blood Pressure.
“The Directorate of Veteran Affairs encourages all pensioners and claimants under the ministry of Defence and Veteran affairs to utilize the established zonal offices in their districts as the first point of call instead of coming to the Ministry headquarters. The Ministry and indeed the UPDF family commiserate with the family in this trying moment and prays that the Lord may strengthen them,” the army said.
