KAMPALA – Government on Monday started testing KCCA staff after four of them tested positive of coronavirus on Friday.

KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju said Minister for Kampala Affairs Betty Amongi ordered the closure of most KCCA offices such as that for the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and the Executive Director, Dr Andrew Kitaka. The group also includes KCCA Deputy ED Samuel Sserunkuuma, the health director, Dr. Sam Okello, as well as other support staff.

Kaujju said that the directors were asked to stay away from city hall and work from home because they were contacts with some staff who were found positive last week.

Four KCCA staff were picked by the COVID-19 Rapid Response team on Friday and taken to a hospital for testing. They raised suspicion after they were discovered to have high temperatures, flu and cough. One of them was also complaining about lack of appetite.

A council meeting that had been slated for Monday to endorse the new members of district land board, discussion of Lake Victoria rising levels, shs.2bn Covid19 supplementary budget among others, were suspended.
