KAMPALA – Nytil dismisses reports on company’s inability to produce face masks by Jane 2

Nyanza Textiles Ltd, which government has contracted to produce face masks for all Ugandans, has dismissed reports that they will not be able to produce the required masks by June 2 when the current lockdown is expected to end.

Mr Richard Mubiru, the company Director for Corporate Affairs, dismissed as forgery a press release which purported that Nytil had admitted lack of capacity to produce the millions of masks.

“The said document is an outright forgery and has been forwarded to Uganda Police for investigation with a view of apprehending the culprits involved in this for prosecution in line with law,” Mubiru said.

The documents which circulated on social media claimed Nytil’s machines had recently broken down.

He added that Nytil will endeavour to work closely with Ugandans and entities of good will so as to make their contribution towards availing masks under the guidance of National COVID19 task force

In his last address to the Nation, President Museveni promised partial lifting of the lockdown by 2nd June 2020.

Museveni warned that during this period everyone will be required to have a mask and that government will be undertaking a nationwide distribution of masks.

These masks will be distributed free of charge at Local council 1 level to all Ugandans above 6 years of age.
