MUBENDE – A cargo truck who tested positive for Covid -19 was over the weekend intercepted in Mubende District.

The patient was intercepted at COWADISA Central Market at Kapipa Village, South Division Mubende District ,about 1km from Mubende Town along Mubende – Fort Portal high way.

According to Dr Deo Lubowa Ssemujju , the Mubende District health officer , the confirmed case was driving a truck registration number UAW-067T and when he arrived at Bwera border post in Kasese District from Democratic Republic of Congo, his nasal swab sample was taken and allowed to proceed with his journey to Mubende District on Thursday .

“When he arrived here, he started loading cassava and maize on the truck and was intending to go back to DRC. When news reached us that he had tested positive, we had to dispatch our health team with the help of police to look for him,” he said on Saturday

He said the sick driver was ordered to park the truck at COWADISA market parking yard, which he did and later taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital to get treatment.

“All people who participated in loading the vehicle including those he came into contact with him on his way ,are going to be traced and quarantined. So far, seven suspects who got into contact with him have been quarantined at St. Peters Technical Institute while 23 others are being traced,” Dr Ssemujju said.

This becomes the first confirmed case to be treated from Mubende Regional Referral Hospital
