NAPAK – Residents of Kangole town council in Napak district on Thursday had sleepless night caused by heavy gunshots between the Police and the Karamojong warriors who had dared to attack the station.

The incident that took place on Thursday midnight lasted for about 30 minutes after police over powered the attackers.

Micheal Ongica, the Napak district police commander confirmed the incident saying it’s the first of its kind to happen to the police station in the district.

He said the motive of the attacker is still unknown adding that police have not yet made any arrest of the although one attacker got injured but he managed to run while bleeding.

“They came and started firing at the police check point gate, we have not established their numbers but they shot up to four bullets towards police, when we responded, they engaged us for about 30 minutes and they took off,” he said.

Ongica told the media that they have sent the messages to all the health centers in Napak, Nakapiripirit and Moroto district in case they receive a patient with serious wounds they should alert the security personnel.

There is a lot growing concerned over the current resurrecting insecurity in Karamoja region.

A fortnight ago, a medical officer attached to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital was shot dead in an ambush laid by suspected Karamojong warriors.
