KAMPALA – People Power pressure group has donated a sum of Shs13,500,000 Shillings towards help of Kasese flood victims that recently swept parts of the district.

The donation was on Wednesday, May 20 handed over to the Kasese Woman MP Winnie Kiiza by Hon Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine.

More than 120,000 people mainly from Karusandara sub-county and Bulembia-Kilembe Division were displaced and their crop gardens washed away when River Nyamwamba burst its banks on Thursday, May 7, 2020.

Additional havoc was caused by overflows from River Nyamughasana, Mubuku, and Lhubiriha.

In an effort to support and provide basic amenities to thousands of persons displaced by the floods, Kiiza in partnership with Rwenzori Social Justice Initiative launched a fund-raising drive, under the theme, “Contribute & Restore Hope” which has seen different individuals and organisations donate to the cause.

According to Kyagulanyi, the money was contributed by themselves as well as comrades in Uganda and abroad.

“I am very grateful to all of you who have responded to our call and made contributions to this noble cause,” he said.

He added that, “To you comrades in Kasese, we stand with you and pray for you.”
