ABIM – A total of 6,000 children and their parents in Abim district, Karamoja region have been infected by scabies.

The disease outbreak has so far covered three sub counties and two town councils namely; Alereke, Abim, and Nyakwae sub counties and Kiru and Abim town councils.

This was revealed by the Resident District
Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Samuel Hasahaka Mpimbaza to the district taskforce on Covid 19 as a matter of concerned.

Mpimbaza said the disease is caused by lack of access to clean water by the community members.

He noted that most of the boreholes in the district counting to 155 got broken and never been repaired.

Mpimbaza told the taskforce that the community shares unsafe water with the animals.

“In this village of Kamunyang, the community collects water from a
marum borrow bit to drink and cooking. This is dangerous,” he said.
