MBARARA – Police in Mbarara are investigating the cause of fire that gutted the house of the Ntare School head master, Mr Jimmy Turyagyenda, destroying property worth millions of shillings.
The fire, which started at around 2pm on Saturday, May 23, gutted the house, which is located within the school campus.
Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira said that the head teacher’s vehicle, a Toyota corolla, and other household property was destroyed in the fire.
Mr Kasasira said police preliminary findings indicate that the fire could have started from electric short circuit in the garage connected to the kitchen.
He added that the police fire brigade responded immediately and put out the fire before it could destroy the rest of the house.
The fire caused extreme panic with hundreds of school staff running out of their houses to witness the situation.
