MBALE-Police in Mbale have on April 17,2020 arrested one suspect who knocked a Police Officer and injured him while enforcing the Presidential directives.

According to the Elgon Region PRO ASP Rodgers Taitika it is alleged that Hassan Namwejawo, aged 32 years, while ridering motorcycle registration number UET 742Y knocked CPL Kidubuka Mawazi who was on duty and broke his leg.

“CPL Kidubuka Mawazi was on duty at Nakaloke manning a check point.
According to eye witnesses the rider was carrying a passenger on the motorcycle and when he was stopped he just increased the speed towards the victim and knocked him breaking his leg,” Mr Taitika said in a statement.

He added that the victim was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

“The suspect was arrested and he is detained at Mbale Police Station,” reads an excerpt.

Mr Taitika further noted that the suspect is to be charged with causing bodily injuries through reckless riding.
Inquiries continue.

President Yoweri Museveni issued a stinging warning to civilians against attacking security forces enforcing lawful orders, saying “they have a right to shoot you”.

The President while addressing the country on Tuesday April 14 afternoon in which he announced an extra 21-day lockdown, warned that attacking armed personnel is like “committing suicide”.

“If you throw stones at police and other security officers, they will be allowed to shoot to disable you,” the president warned while addressing the country on Tuesday April 14.

“For those beating soldiers. You beat me, a soldier, how? I will beat you until you are subdued. Then, I arrest you!” he noted.
