Mr Niwanyine who is also an escort of the Amuru district RDC was attacked on April 11, 2020 by a one Stephen Olibia at as he was asking people to close their shops at around 8:30pm in Bibia town council.

The incident was revealed by the UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire on his twitter platform.

“He lost his eye when violently attacked in Bibia Town council as he enforced directives to prevent COVID-19. Such incidents emerging including pelting stones at security forces must stop,” reads the tweet.

The suspect has been arrested and is under police custody in Amuru.

Mr Karemire in his address on Friday 10″, 2020 warned those attacking security forces as they would be heavily punished.

He added that, “our appeal remains the same that please don’t obstruct the security forces while on duty. Don’t put your finger in fire because you are going to get burnt by doing these silly things,” said Karemire.
