MUKONO — The Minister for Science, Technology and Innovations Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye has appealed to students to continue being innovative even when they are out of school.
Dr. Tumwesigye said: “When students are in school they have so many innovative ideas and once they are out you of school find them reading newspapers looking for jobs and wonder what happened to their ideas.”
“Others go to Arabian countries to work as shamba boys or maids with their degrees. “ he added
He made the remarks while gracing the Faulty of Science and Technology (FOST) exhibition at Uganda Christian University (UCU) under the theme: “Impact Smart & Technological Innovations”.
During the function students from the departments of Engineering, IT and Agricultural Sciences and Entrepreneurship show cased their latest innovations and the students with the best research proposals were given a chance to present them to the minister.

Micheal Oluge a third-year Computer Science student said that the theme was chosen to illustrate the importance of ICT on agriculture.
He said: “As we look into the future, with technology we shall be able to increase production in agriculture without affecting the environment.”
“Climate smart agriculture also will increase stable yields as farmers are able to know when to plant and when not to,’ he added
The Director Science, Research and Innovation in the Ministry Mr. Maxwell Otim also appealed to the students no to give up on the projects.
“Even after school carry on with your projects because they could be a good breaking point that will be your break through,” Otim said.
He also noted that their projects are good enough to enter competitions at the ministry for funds so as they can be developed for large market.
