KASESE – Security forces have arrested 14 members of Kirumira Mutima, a militia group that operates in Kasese and Bundibugyo districts.

The militiamen were arrested with machetes from Bundibugyo district last Saturday as they allegedly plotted to carry out attacks against police posts and army detaches.

Bundibugyo Resident district commissioner Grace Kakwenza told journalists on Saturday that the operation was carried out in Karambi parish, Burondo Sub County, Bundibugyo district.

Kakwenza said the suspects were also found in a shrine with a flag of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (Kingdom) and a map of Yiira state among other things.

Kakwenza said the suspects had a list of people who are contributing food to them.

“Our sources said these people have some trainers and traditional herbalists from DR Congo, but now i urge the public to stay calm and keep peace as we do our work as security,” she added.

Kakwenza said security is on full alert and on standby to quell any possible attacks.

The group is said to have been involved in clashes with government forces and killing of civilians in the recent past.

A number of army officers have been seen at Kasese officers mess. Police troop carriers have been seen coming in and out of the central police offices.
