KAMPALA – The Ministry of Education and Sports has promised to investigate allegations that some schools are refusing to register senior four and senior six students who are not intellectually bright for Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB).

The revelation was made after a complaint raised by Winnie Kiiza (Kasese Woman MP) who raised the matter during the plenary sitting in which she asked Government to clarify on what policy institutions of learning were refusing to register some students under the pretext that they hadn’t performed well, which risks tainting the image of their institution when UNEB results return.

Kiiza cited complaints from parents with students at Nabisunsa Girls’ High School who approached her complaining that the school had informed them that their children will not be sitting their senior four and senior six exams from the school because their previous performance had showed they would taint the name of the school.

Kiiza’s complaint was backed by other MPs who claimed that it was not only Nabisunsa Girls School engaging in these acts, but a number of schools were taking the drastic measures which has left both students and parents grappling with finding placements in other schools.

This prompted the Minister of State for Sports, Hamson Obua to call on MPs to furnish him with list of all schools involved in such adhoc acts and have them investigated because Government has never approved such a policy.
