KAMPALA – The Public Relations Officer of the Judiciary who doubles as Assistant Inspector of Courts, Jamson Karemani, on Tuesday presided over an enrolment ceremony for 93 new advocates of the High Court. He was representing Ag. Chief Registrar, Tom Chemutai.

Karemani congratulated the new advocates on the milestone saying, “We as courts take pride in you as advocates. Handling a matter where there is an advocate makes our work easy.”

He urged the new officers of court to embrace new Judiciary initiatives such as Plea Bargaining, Electronic Court Case Management Information System, and Mediation. He cautioned the advocates not to hold brief unless they are ready to proceed as per the practice directions.

To the advocates he said honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom. “Being honest may not get you a lot of friends but it will always get you the right ones.

Karemani urged the advocates to aim at uplifting the profession.

The President of the Uganda Law Society, Simon Peter Kinobe, advised the new officers of court to among other things be humble, always give back to the community and protect their brand.

The ceremony was attended by a representative from the Law Council as well as the Judiciary Commissioner in Charge of Engineering and Technical Services, Eng Dr Christopher Ebal who came to witness the enrolment of his daughter.

Others included ULS Chief Executive Officer, Joyce Nalunga, ULS Vice President Phiona Wall and Personal Assistant to the Chief Registrar, Allan Gakyaro
