Coronavirus: Parliament to scrutinise budget electronically

KAMPALA – The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has on Tuesday, March 24 announced that the budgeting process for the coming finical year 2020/21 will be carried out through electronic system in guard of spread of coronavirus.

In this, there will not be officials from different ministries to physically present their policy statements to specific sectoral committees.

Kadaga says the ministries will send documents electronically to members of different committees who will study and analyze them except in a few instances when a few officials from ministry will be called in for more clarifications.

Kadaga has further halted the work of the Accountability committees including Public Accounts Committee both central and local government, committee on commissions, statutory Authorities and State enterprises (COSASE) to allow mps time to concentrate on budgeting process.

This after Kasilo county Mp Elija Okupa raised the matter.

In a related development, World Health Organization- Uganda has revealed that items donated by Jack Ma the richest man to help fight Coronovirus in Africa have been received by the Ministry of Health.

The global health body made the announcement on it’s official Twitter account noting, “Good news: Ethiopian Airlines carrying the @jackma consignment of support towards #COVID19 response just landed at Entebbe airport. ”

According to WHO-Uganda, Uganda received100,000 masks, 20,089 test kits, 741 Personal Protective Equipment and 1,111 face shields.
