KAMPALA – Police has revealed that the prime suspect behind the murder by shooting of Sheikh Mutumba Masudi, the imam of Iwemba Masjid Noor, Iwemba Sub County in Bugiri district has been arrested. The deceased was killed on February 14, 2020.
The suspect identified as Mugoya Abiyasad is a supervisor of SGA private security company according to the police statement.
CP Enanga Fred, the Police Spokesperson said in a statement that the suspected shooter admitted to having shot and killed the victim when interrogated.
“He further provided details that led to the recovery of the gun at Rubaga, which went missing on the 14/02/2020 at around midday. The task team also impounded an Ipsum motor vehicle that transported the killers from Kampala to Bugiri, and arrested the driver,” reads the statement in part.
“We would like to inform the public that this is a premeditated and straight forward case of murder, with personal conflict due to land wrangles, as the motivation. The task team is now focusing on the facts and physical evidence, to clearly bring out the roles played by each of the suspects,” added police.
Police earlier arrested eight people in connection with the murder of Sheikh Mutumba and linked his killing to an ongoing land wrangle with Koita Suleiman, also of Busimba village.
The suspects included a boda boda rider who allegedly transported the killers to and from the murder scene.
Enanga told journalists on Monday, February 17, 2020, that the deceased won a Civil suit in Bugiri High Court, which was appealed in Jinja High Court and judgement was due to be read on the 20/02/2020.
