BUIKWE – Police on Monday, February 24, 2020, impounded the vehicle belonging to Dr Kizza Besigye ahead of the opposition leader’s anticipated visit to Njeru Municipality in Buikwe District.

Traffice police officers flagged down the vehicle, Registration number, UAN 661V near Ssezibwa bridge and held the driver, Mr Fred Kato, hostage.

Two traffic police officers then got into the vehicle, and ordered the driver to drive it to Kayunga.

Asked if the vehicle or driver have any traffic offense, the unidentified traffic officer said they have instructions from Police Headquarters in Naguru to impound the vehicle.

Dr Besigye is expected in Buikwe to address an FDC rally as part of the party celebrations to mark 15 years of existence.

Police also surrounded the FDC offices in Buikwe in a bid to block the rally.

This came hours after FDC party spokesman Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said the party’s electoral road map for 2021 has been hampered by state harassment.

“The EC must stop Museveni and security from interfering with the activities of his competitors. Our mobilization has a party has and is being interfered with by Police and UPDF. They are also disrupting activities of other political platforms such as People Power. The Electoral Commission has a duty to stop Police, UPDF and Museveni from disrupting election-related activities,” Mr Nganda told journalists at the party headquarters in Kampala on Monday.
