KAMPALA – The Ministry of Health has on Tuesday, January 28 handed over seventy thousand (70000) mosquito nets to Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) to boost their various activities in the forthcoming Tarehe Sita Celebrations in greater Luweero in Nakaseke District.
The mosquito nets were received by Maj Gen Ambrose Musinguzi the Chief Medical Services in UPDF on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) at the Ministry of Health headquarters.
It should be noted that this is the second time the Ministry of Health is donating Mosquito nets to UPDF.
Last year, the Ministry of Health donated a hundred thousand Mosquito nets (100,000) towards Tarehe Sita activities.
Maj Gen Ambrose Musinguzi who represented the CDF thanked the Ministry of Heath for always closely working with the UPDF.
He said that this is the second time the Ministry of Health is partnering with the UPDF during these activities and he promised that as the UPDF fraternity they will continue working with them for the noble cause.
Maj Gen Ambrose said that the mosquito nets will be distributed in the areas where the celebrations are going to take place and some will also be distributed to the Health facilities in the district where the celebrations are to be held.
He commended the Ministry of Health for always coming in whenever the Army is celebrating Tarehe Sita. “You have always come in at the right time and we promise to work with you even in the upcoming Tarehe Sita celebrations.” Maj Gen Ambrose remarked.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry Ministry of Health Dr. Diana Atwine, who handed over the mosquito nets, thanked the UPDF for their continuous contribution to the civilian community.
She said the UPDF has not only provided security to Ugandans but also has gone the extra mile to protect their Health.
Dr. Atwine hailed the UPDF for always standing in the gap for the Ministry of Health. “Every time we have a crisis you come in we can’t thank you enough,” said Dr. Diana.
She thanked the UPDF for choosing greater Luweero particularly Nakeseke District for this year’s Tarehe Sita celebrations because Nakeseke has a lot of malaria cases due to lack of mosquito nets. She said that now that UPDF has stepped in, she hopes the malaria cases will reduce.
The hand over was also witnessed by Lt Col Francis Bakehena Deputy Director Public Health of UPDF among other health officials.
