BUVUMA – Police has arrested a suspected Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) deserter on allegation of murder and aggravated robbery of a mobile money agent.
This was announced by deputy police spokesperson Polly Namaye on January 20 during the weekly presser at Naguru Police headquarters.
According to Namaye, the suspect identified as David Kisuule is a resident of Bukayo village, Buvuma District allegedly possessed an AK47 rifle while carrying out the crime.
“We have recovered a rifle which was obtained on January 16 at Bukayo village, Busamizi parish, in Buvuma district. The riffle is an AK47, registration number 711337 with 24 rounds, and it was recovered from a person who is believed to be a UPDF deserter,” she revealed.
Namaye said the suspect is in police custody on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
In a related incident, police arrested army officer Kirala Otunu from Gadhafi barracks in Jinja on charges of aggravated defilement
“It is alleged that on the 3rd of January the mother of the victim identified as Kayaga Jennifer 27 years caught the suspect right-handed defiling the juvenile. According to the victim, this was not the first time, but because of fear, the victim had not confided in the mother until when the suspect was caught right-handed,” Namaye told the press.
She further said that the victim was examined and was put on Post Exposure treatment as inquiries continue.
