KAMPALA – The newly appointed Minister of State for Economic Monitoring, Ms Molly Kamukama, has said she does not miss her former job.

Before being appointed minister, Ms Kamukama previously served as the Principal Private Secretary to the President, a position she had held since 2016. She was then replaced by Kenneth Omona, the NRM Deputy Treasurer.

But speaking at Parliament after swearing the oath of allegiance on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, Ms Kamukama said that she will not miss her former job, arguing that the ministerial job is a promotion.

“I played my part as the secretary but becoming a minister is, of course, promotion and I cannot say no to it. I will do my best in my new task as the minister,” she said.

Ms Kamukama also said that she is going to work hand in hand with other government ministers to monitor the economic growth of this country.

“We are going to continue with the programs that have been going on, but we are also going to formulate new policies that favor the private sector both at the international and local level. This will help us to achieve the economic growth that will in return lead to development on this country,” Kamukama told journalists.

“I am going to monitor the entire economy to see if they are doing the right thing for growth or not. We shall also guide this government on what is needed to achieve middle-income status,” she added.
