KWEEN – The state minister for gender and culture has lashed out at those struggling to take up power from president Museveni as mere actors.

Ms Peace Mutuzo while referring to Mr Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine said Uganda cannot be led by dancers in this 21 century when we have seasoned leaders like President Museveni.

“President Museveni has been in power for more than thirty years consistently and can go on for fifty years without any problem. We are still here and we are not forcing ourselves unto the people but it is the people who have entrusted us with this leadership,” said Ms Mutuzo.

Ms Mutuzo who was addressing the celebrations to mark the annual Sabiny culture day 30 November at Chepsukunya Primary school in Kween district described Mr Kyagulanyi as a mere dancer who can’t take over government and guide it the way president Museveni has guided it.

She said when they were fighting for liberation of Uganda, Mr Kyagulanyi and others were in the Ghetto smoking and that now that there is peace all the country, they are coming up to stand against a people choice.

She explained that president Museveni has been tested for the last 32 years and found to be a formidable force that can govern this country for as long as he leaves.

“There is a president who killed us for eight years and he went, then there was one whom we even gave second chance and he failed. There are those presidents who could not even complete a year but we have had president Museveni for 32 years and he is still strong,” said Ms Mutuzo.

This comes after Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has officially announced his presidential bid in the 2021 elections.

Since turning to politics about two years ago, the musician-cum legislator has often remained coy about his presidential ambitions, usually giving half answers on the matter. But today, at his home in Magere, Gayaza, Kyagulanyi said he’s ready to take on long time President Yoweri Museveni.

Museveni has been in power since bombing his way to power in 1986. His closest challenger has always been Rtd Col Kizza Besigye in elections that have often been marred by rigging and several electoral violations as confirmed by courts in 2016, 2011 and 2015. Besigye and Kyagulanyi have been in talks over the 2021 elections.

But the Manjiya county MP John Baptist Nambeshe (NRM) who coordinate’s leads Bugisu region for ‘People Power” said Ms Mutuzo is out of reality because we have even seen presidents who are singers, footballers and film actors.

“It is not dancing that is coming to lead the country but the person in Mr. Kyagalanyi, and he has the potential, that explains why they are panicking, let us just watch and they should ensure there are free and fair elections.

The secretary General of the FDC party Mr. Nathan Nandala Mafabi condemned the attack on Kyagalanyi and asked the minister to be civil while talking about other MPs in the house.

“How do you describe a member of Parliament as a mere dancer who can’t take power in this country, she was out of order and as MPs we need to respect each other.” Said Mr. Nandala.

Mr. Ssenyonyi, the spokesman of People Power could not be reached for a comment.
