KAMPALA – He will be dearly missed and although he is no longer with us, the ideals and virtues that he championed will continue to serve as a source of inspiration, as we all work towards elevating the importance of democracy and human rights issues in Uganda, the Embassy of Belgium in Uganda has mourned the late Hon. Med S.K. Kaggwa, Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC).

Kaggwa was rushed to Case hospital on Wednesday morning after being found unconscious in his vehicle and was later pronounced dead.

In their condolence message, Belgium Embassy described Kaggwa as a man of integrity who was looking forward to nurturing democratic structures in Uganda.

“In our capacity as the current chair of the Democracy Human Rights Working Group, we had the distinct honour of working closely with Hon. Kaggwa and his team at the UHRC, to nurture and develop stable democratic structures in Uganda,” said the Embassy.

The day before his death, Kaggwa spent the whole of it in high spirits as he prepared for celebrations to mark the World Children’s Day that was scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

He was also meant to be part of a panel discussion on the rights of children at UNICEF in Kampala on Wednesday morning.

He will be laid to rest on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 2:00 pm in Mpigi District.
